Castlepoint Beach Clean Up - December 2017

In december 2017, I Chayla Beaver alongside The Castlepoint store are going to be organising the annual Castlepoint Beach clean up. This event is has been held once, last year in 2016 and was a total success. We had over 120 participants of all ages and abilities help out and we collected over 150kgs of rubbish which was then sorted through and recycled and tallied up.

This event was designed to help create awareness about the harm of litter entering our oceans. Every year large amounts of litter enters our oceans. Most of this litter contains partially durable plastics. The mass over plastic debris entering our ocean each year is steadily increasing. An this is causing fatal effects on our oceans environments and also the countless sea creatures. Although this problem has been around for sometime, There is still no effective strategy to turn the tide on increasing litter.

The statistics are alarming: the National Academy of Sciences in the USA estimated in 1997 that around 6.4 million tonnes of litter enter the world’s oceans each year. However, it is difficult to arrive at an accurate estimate of the amount of garbage in the oceans because it is constantly moving, making it almost impossible to quantify. A further complicating factor is that the litter enters the marine environment by many different pathways. By far the majority originates from land-based sources. Some of it is sewage-related debris that is washed down rivers into the sea, or wind-blown waste from refuse dumps located on the coast, but some of it comes from careless beach visitors who leave their litter lying on the sand. The fact that marine litter is a problem that must be taken seriously is only gradually being recognized.

This years beach clean up is being planned as we speak and we would really love you / or your business to be involved. We are looking for the sponsorship:

Transport sponsorship - This could be in the form of a bus or the hiring of a van. This is to allow as many people to be able to participate as possible

Food / Drink sponsorship - we are planning on having tea and coffee available as well as some small food to help feed our volunteers.

Spot Prizes - to make the event fun for all ages as well as help promote you or your business we are looking into involving spot prizes to the day

Music equipment hire - We are interested in helping up and coming musicians get known as well as provide entertainment for the day

Table and chair hire - We currently do not have any tables or chairs for our volunteers and would love for this to be available for our volunteers.

Media - This year we are looking at having has much media coverage as possible for the clean up so if you are able to help in this department it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for taking the time to consider this oppourtunity and i would love to hear from you.
